Silver Lakes Golf Club is part of an upmarket residential estate on the outskirts of Pretoria, situated in genuine bushveld country. As the name of the club implies, there is an abundance of lakes and attractive water features running through this spectacular course. Water comes into play on 10 of the 18 holes and can be a source of extreme frustration as your balls start to disappear from your bag.
Silver Lakes golf course has narrow, well-mounded and well-kept Kikuyu fairways with large, undulating greens (Penn Links/Bent grass). The course is well bunkered and the rough very mild.
Almost every hole on the Silver Lakes course is a feature hole, but there are several that stand out. The 3rd, for instance, is a longish par-three with a large, desert-like bunker which is dotted with cacti and rocks. The 14th is particularly memorable. There is water almost all the way from tee to green and the golfer's option is to aim left to a fairly broad expanse of fairway. There is the longer route, which is more likely to yield a routine par. The tiger-line is straight over the lake to a narrow strip of island fairway. If the drive lands on dry ground the green is invariably in range with the approach and a birdie or even an eagle is in the offing. Both the par-three 9th and the par-five 18th sport island greens.
Silver Lakes golf course is situated 20 kilometers east of Pretoria and promises an absorbing golf challenge on a high quality course.
