Pretoria Country Club Golf Course was founded in 1910. It nestles in the scenic beauty of Waterkloof, one of Pretoria's most prestigious suburbs. It is renowned as the quality sports and social venue set in magnificent surroundings.
The Pretoria Country Club's golf course was redesigned and built by the Gary Player Group during the latter part of 2004. The official opening took place on 22 January 2005 with Mr Gary Player teeing the first official ball. The new design is unique due to the fact that all the bunkers on the course are pot bunkers with geotextile facings creating a stern test in bunker play. Furthermore, all existing water hazards were redesigned as well as creating new water hazards which all have a natural feel.
The back nine, which is noted for its big and beautiful willow trees, is particularly challenging with the 13th (400 metres) and the 15th (380 metres) both somewhat punishing par-fours where water is in play with both the tee shot as well as the approach shot.
A sophisticated irrigation system helps to keep the course beautifully green and in immaculate condition for most of the year, and the members' claims, that their course is the best in the city, should be taken seriously. Set in the beautiful, Jacaranda-lined upmarket suburb of Waterkloof, the course is a delight to play.
Over the years the Pretoria Country Club has become a landmark in Pretoria, which is situated approximately 50 kilometers north of Johannesburg.
