The Oubaai Golf Course is situated at Herolds Bay is located 10 kilomters from George Airport on the coastline of The Garden Route. Ernie Els, 3 times Major Championship Winner, who designed the course, has placed Oubaai as his favorite course in the world. The golf course, a Links layout, has veld grasses lining the lush fairways and greens. The elements, predominantly the wind, play a role in the defenses of this coastal golf course.
Generous fairways are found off the tees but in the spirit of the course these are well bunkered to penalize any stray or ill considered drives. The greens are in excellent condition and roll smooth and true. Oubaai is a course that will reward the well executed shot and penalize any wayward shots in the true time honored tradition of a championship golf course. Oubaai is long for a coastal course, but the design and placement of tee boxes allow all levels of handicap golfers the opportunity to extract a respectable score given patience and good course manageent.
The course has five par-threes and five par-fives. The most photographed hole on the course is the par-three 17th where the green is below yothe player and framed by the ocean. If you are lucky enough to sight a whale in this corner of the course, the hole will be even more memorable. The green of the par-three 6th is framed by the majestic Outeniqua Mountains in the distance. The Gwaing River flows far below and to the right while behind and in the distance the Indian Ocean is in sight. The resident Fish eagles will also occasionally appear.
Oubaai has become a benchmark of quality golf and excellent service. Playing the course is challenging, enjoying and memorable.
