The theme of the Arabella Golf Course is balance. Challenging enough to bring you back for more, yet enjoyable enough to make you not want to leave. The course was designed and built by renowned golf course architect Peter Matkovicho. His undoubted success has resulted in a course that complements the environment without disappointing the golfer, whether expert or amateur.
Arabella has magnificent views across the Bot River lagoon and across the Kogelberg mountain range. This parkland course has greens that are dominant Bent, whilst the fairways are Kikuyu. The addition of several bunkers and the revamp of the par-four 6th has brought about a refinement to this course.
The fame of the course has in recent years spread internationally, with the Nelson Mandela Invitational having been held here over several years. This pro-celebrity tournament, hosted by Gary Player, has hosted players such as Jack Nicklaus, Samuel L Jackson, Ronan Keating, Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Tim Clark, Lee Westwood and Same Torrance.

The course is 6381 meters in length . It borders the largest natural lagoon in South Africa, and the 9th, 17th and 18th holes run parallel to the lagoon. Choosing a signature hole proves to be an extremely difficult task, as all of the holes are well designed with spectacular views. Peter Matkovich ensured that the 18 holes encompass the mountain backdrops, lagoon frontage and forests on the estate near Kleinmond. These provide for links, parkland and coastal aspects, while the individual fairways provide natural corridors as vantage points to savour nature's true beauty.
There is no doubt that a round of golf at Arabella ranks with the best experiences in the world.
The Arabella Golf Club lies on the south-western coast of South Africa, 90 kilometres from Cape Town International Airport. It is located in Kleinmond (between Cape Town and Hermanus, South Africa's premier whale watching location). During the months of June to November a round of golf on the championship Arabella course should definitely be followed by a viewing of these graceful creatures in Walker Bay.
